The Coffee shop opening times are 10.00 – 4.30 on Monday and 10.00 – 2.00 Tuesday to Saturday. We now provide 2 free newspapers as well as free Wi-Fi.

EVENTS

In addition to the regular classes (see www.cottenhamcc.org), Cottenham Community Centre (Opposite the Co-Op on Cottenham High Street) has themed events arranged for this Spring. Tickets (for certain events) are available through The Coffee Shop (tel: 01954 202109) at reasonable cost and are expected to sell out ahead of each event – be sure to get yours now.

MEDI, HEARTY, COOK, Wed 26 March 2014 at 7.30

Dr. Simon Poole. Cottenham Community Centre and Telegraph Street Patients’ Group are delighted to present another ‘cook-in’ at the Coffee Shop on Wednesday 26th March, 7.30-9.00pm, when Dr. Poole returns to present in his own inimitable and entertaining way, the benefits of a Mediterranean style diet to that crucial muscle of ours, the heart. Come and enjoy the taster dishes which Jane and her team will prepare, perhaps washed down with a glass of wine.
A few tickets at £4 to cover costs (excluding wine), are still available from the Coffee Shop and from Telegraph Street surgery.

EASTER MARKET, Saturday 5 April 10am – 2pm

Come and have a look at the super locally made items and combine it with a visit to the coffee shop for coffee or lunch.

ST GEORGE’S DAY, Friday 25th April

Celebrate the patron saint of England by boogying down to a ‘best of British’ disco at the Community Centre. Music from your favourite British artists from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Alcoholic drinks available, and tickets include a traditional hog roast. The money raised will go towards fans in the coffee shop to help keep the hard working staff and volunteers cooler in warmer months!

HEART START TRAINING, Saturday 26 April 10am to 12.00am

Ever thought what should I do if that person in front of me had a heart attack? It could happen – be prepared – book your place early as very limited numbers.

CHOCOLATE  TASTING organised by Ladybirds Wed 7 May, 7.00 or 7.30pm

1.5 hours of bliss? Tempted? Wine available. Get your tickets early from Ladybirds. office@ladybirdpreschool.org

VE DAY EXTRAVAGANZA, Thursday 8th May

An evening focusing on the sights, sounds and memories of war-time featuring ‘The Entertainers’ – songs, dance and fantastic costumes. Ticket-price includes nibbles (with a war-time theme) and tea/coffee. Wine, beer and soft drinks available to purchase. There will also be video, photographs and a few surprises. Come dressed in 1940’s costume (optional). Individual tickets available – or book a table for your group.

WORLD FAIR TRADE DAY, Sat 10 May 10am to 2 pm in the Coffee shop

PROSTATE CANCER lecture / information evening Tuesday 10 June

Mr Christof Kastner, a Consultant Urologist from the Urology Dept at Addenbrookes has offered to give a talk on 10th June (evening). Watch out for more details and time.

PHOTO COMPETITION June

We’re looking for interesting and innovative photos on the subject “Angles on Cottenham”. People, places, spaces, landscapes, streets, fields, gardens – choose whatever images from around the village that you feel suit the theme. Photos will be judged on their originality rather than the quality of image. There will be prizes for adults and children. So get your camera, phone or tablet out in Cottenham this spring and see how you can surprise us.

Pick up an entry form, available soon, from the Centre during Coffee Shop opening hours.

There is Artwork, cards, jams etc to buy and beautiful Pictures and Quilts adorning the walls. Come and enjoy browsing our second hand books, CDs and videos.

Look out for new classes both in the studio (e.g.Adult ballet Thursdays at 10 and soon also on Wednesdays) and main hall (e.g. Mucky Pups Mon at 10 and Children’s Sewing on certain Sats).

Knitting Group. On Wednesday Mornings 10am -12 noon several people meet in the coffee shop over a coffee and cake to knit. Just come and join in if you are interested.

Ideas group (NEW) for over 55s – alternate Mondays from Mon 23 March at 2pm in the coffee shop. Play games or maybe form a singing group?

We are keen to hire out the rooms, especially for new activities to Cottenham or for parties (the coffee shop can provide food) so if you would like to hire one of our 3 rooms (main hall, Studio (upstairs) or coffee shop, E-mail smithmichaelstanley@hotmail.com to book. The hall is available some afternoons to book. You are now able to check bookings (and classes) by looking on the website at Function Rooms and then the room and looking for the date.

We are actively looking for new volunteers. If you would like to volunteer in the coffee shop, meet people and improve your skills, do get in touch by replying to manager@cottenhamcc.org or phoning 01954 202109 during opening hours.

If you, and/or your friends, would further like to support our exciting facility the website has a link to shop on-line with “easy fundraising”. It costs you nothing more but brings in extra income for CCC.

Membership – time for renewal or to join – a form is available on the website or in coffee shop. Receive a free drink after 10 drink purchases.

The AGM was on Thursday 6 Feb at 7.30pm at the third anniversary of the opening of the coffee shop. Two new trustees were elected and the members thanked Eddie Murphy (who remains as a trustee) for successfully chairing the trustees since formation. Simon Ward was elected Chair. Trustees are now busy with a Spring clean.
