Newsletter November 2012

This charity-run facility in the former and radically modernised Methodist church, opposite the Co-Op on Cottenham High Street, includes a lovely coffee shop with all food prepared on the premises. Do come for morning coffee/tea or a delightful light lunch – maybe whilst any youngsters have fun  in the children’s play area, and combine it with a shopping trip for cards, artwork or superb wood-turned items or maybe just some second hand books and, whilst here, do your weekly shop at the Co-op directly opposite.

The Coffee shop normal opening time is 10.00 – 4.30 on Monday and 10.00 -2.00 Tuesday to Saturday. It will close at Christmas on Saturday 22 Dec at 2pm and re-open on Wed 2 January at 10am.

Acoustic material has been installed in the coffee shop. There has been a dramatic difference to the noise level – do pop in and hear the difference whilst enjoying your choice from the winter menu or specials board. We are now planning further improvements to the building.

The sale of Cup cakes and biscuits raised £82.80 for Children in Need. Thank you for your support.

On Wednesday 28 November we have a fashion and fragrance show at 7pm to 9pm.

There will be the Community Centre’s Christmas Market plus a raffle on Saturday 1 December 10am to 2pm.

We will have a Christmas tree again in the coffee shop for December

We will also have a Christmas tree at All Saints’ Church’s Christmas around the World. This will be open 10-4 on Sat 1 Dec and 12.30 to 4 on Sunday 2 Dec. Our tree’s theme is Peace around the World. Do pop along – there will be lots of other trees and refreshments etc available.

On Saturday 22 December at 11am there will be a local very talented vocalist (Kirsten who is “Alice” in The Theatre workshop’s pantomime), singing and leading some seasonal songs.

Please come and join us at Cottenham Community Centre coffee shop for Story Corner for pre-school children 10.30am alternate Wednesdays and 11.30 alternate Fridays. Do bring your child/grandchild for this fun time. In the New Year it may start on Mondays at 11.15 as well.

Cottenham Seniors will be meeting in the back hall on Friday December 14 from 2-4pm if you would like to join.

Dads Play: Every second Saturday of the month (including Sat 8 December and Sat 12 January), an opportunity for Dads or male carers/guardians of Under-5′s to meet at the Cottenham Community Centre Coffee Shop. The kids get the chance to play together. The men get a chance to eat bacon sandwiches and drink great coffee!

Time- 10:30-11:30

Arts Night: A small group of young-ish poets, musicians, storytellers, comedians, singers, photographers and artists have begun getting together to form a creative arts night and series of events at the CCC Coffee Shop. We aim to share original and borrowed material and collaborate in creating new works, as well as putting on quality performances and having quality conversations exploring issues of life and faith from a variety of perspectives. So far we have been looking at the connected themes of parenthood, youth and childhood, and we have used photography, original songs, a variety of cover versions (from Dylan to Bowie), re-written bible passages, poetry, short stories and more…..all are welcome, regardless of beliefs or talent!

Marriage and Parenting courses: After the fantastic Marriage Course earlier in the year, we are looking to put on another course in the New Year. We have also arranged two Parenting Courses in January/February 2013, one for those with young children on Tuesdays from 8 January to 5 Feb and one for those with teenagers on19 and 26 February. Please get in touch with Simon if these sound like the sort of courses you might be interested in either as a helper or attendee….
