Cottenham Community Centre introduces…

Design a postcard for Cottenham Competition

‘Wish you were here….’

Postcards are one of the most meaningful ways of sending a message. Their invention was an important milestone in the history of communication, and later of the visual arts – providing a convenient creative canvas, and enabling a convenient, affordable, and practical way for anyone to send a message to those near and far… and carry an important image that can be retained and displayed. They can also be souvenirs, and ways to share visual ideas, experiences, and memories. There is currently no postcard available of Cottenham.

We need a new postcard to promote Cottenham and our Community Centre, to represent the character and spirit of the village and its community.

For 2022, you are invited to design a postcard for Cottenham. The design can reference any aspect of the village and village life; past and present; hidden views, or well-known sites.

Your design can be a photograph, drawing, painting, print, or collage. It may be 3 dimensional but will be reproduced as a printed postcard design.

  • Each design must be original – it is important that the postcard design is eye-catching and attractive.
  • We would like the design to include the word ‘Cottenham’, this can be as a single word or within a phrase of your choosing.
  • You may submit multiple designs, but each will need a separate application.
  • You can design on your own or as a group.
  • Submissions will not be accepted if the competition organisers deem the content to be derogatory or offensive.
  • All entries must have an accompanying application form.

Design Specifications

The winning design will be printed, so please avoid using anything shiny, sparkly or fluffy as this will not translate into a printed postcard.

We have created templates, for you to create your image – this can be either landscape or portrait. Please ensure your design stays within the border on the template. The finished postcard will be A6 (standard postcard size) in size and printed in full colour.

  • Pencil, pen, pastels, crayon, chalk – please fix pastel and chalk if used.
  • Paint – please ensure your work is dry before it is submitted.
  • Collage – as above, check your glue has dried.
  • Lino print, screen print, etching, potato, sponge or other print types!
  • Photograph.

Please bring your work along to the Community Centre Coffee Shop by Saturday 14th May with a completed application form, and ensure you specify which category your application falls into:
