Cottenham Community Centre newsletter Feb 2012

The CCC coffee shop will be open from 10am until 4.30pm tomorrow and each Monday

CCC membership renewal is due – please see the attached form – this can be sent to Steve Poole. Please encourage your friends to join – new potential members are warmly welcome

CCC is liaising with FECA and the Parish council re an event for Queen’s Diamond Jubilee on 3 June. There will be a meeting at 7.30 at CVC on Wed 22 Feb – If you would like to help please do get in touch or come to the meeting. (Please note this meeting will be held at Cottenham Village College).

Localism –Planning laws are changing; do come to CCC coffee shop at 7.45pm on Thursday 23 Feb to a talk (free) arranged by Cottenham Village Design Group (CVDG) to hear how this may affect you. CVDG’s AGM will follow the talk.

Tyrannochorus have kindly offered to hold a concert at CVC at 7.30pm on Friday 24 February to raise funds for Cottenham Community Centre. If you have heard these 100 singers before you may well already have bought your tickets, if not tickets are available from the coffee shop or Jig’s newsagents (Shaun’s) – do tell all your friends and come along for a wonderful evening and help raise lots of money for CCC’s further development for Audio Visual equipment. Tickets cost £5 or £4 for children. There will also be a raffle. (Please note this event will be held at Cottenham Village College).

Following Dr Simon Poole’s talk at CCC about Mediterranean food and its health benefits last Autumn you will not want to miss the “Medi, Steady, Cook” Cooking demonstration on Thursday 1 March at 7.30pm. There will also be a blind olive oil tasting session, which should be fun. How will the oil sold by supermarkets compare with single estate produced olive oil do come to see? Tickets are available at the coffee shop (£2.50).

The AGM on 9 Feb. went well and Eddie Murphy (chair) and Steve Poole (Treasurer) explained the finances, the developments in the first year of the coffee shop and what the plans are. Three new people volunteered to become trustees. There is one vacancy –would you like to become a trustee and help the further development of the Community Centre? If so do get in touch.

Work on converting a room into an office for the Parish Council has begun and it is expected that they will be using the room by April.

Due partly to the extended hours, we would like a few more volunteers to help in the coffee shop. If you know anyone who would like to help, and gain experience in this super facility, do ask him or her to have a chat with Jane in the coffee shop.
